How Far in Advance Should I Plan My Christmas Light Installation?
The short answer is earlier than most people think. Late summer and early fall are when the good install dates get claimed, and by the time the first cold snap arrives the calendar is usually working against you rather than for you.
Why the Calendar Fills From the Top Down
Holiday light installation has a narrow working window. Crews need dry weather, workable daylight and safe roof conditions, and all of that has to happen in the weeks between the end of fall and the start of December. Every company in the region is working the same short runway.
That means install slots are finite. The homeowners who book in summer and early fall choose their dates. The ones who call in late November take whatever is left, if anything is left at all.
What Each Part of the Season Looks Like
Here is roughly how a well planned holiday lighting year unfolds.
Summer and Early Fall
The quiet, unhurried part. We walk the property, measure rooflines, talk through the look you want and put a written scope together. No pressure and no weather to fight.
Early to Mid Fall
Design is finalized, product is ordered and cut to fit your home, and your install date goes on the schedule. This is the last comfortable moment to make big design changes.
Late Fall
Installation happens. Your display is up and tested well before you need it, which is the entire point of booking early.
December
In season service. If wind or ice knocks something out, it gets fixed while you enjoy the display rather than while you are on a ladder.
January
Takedown and storage. Lights come down safely and go into offsite storage, ready for next year without taking up space in your garage.
What Happens When You Wait
Waiting does not usually mean you cannot get lights. It means you lose control of the variables that matter. Your install date becomes whatever is available. Design changes become harder because product has to be ordered and fitted. And if the weather turns during the only window left, there is no slack in the schedule to move you.
